While Epic Games is currently in turmoil after laying off more than 1,000 employees due to the stagnation of Fortnite, a potential buyer could one day come knocking on its door.
According to Alex Heath, a well-known tech journalist, Disney has reportedly considered acquiring Epic Games. He claims “with certainty” that senior executives at the entertainment giant have this ambition and are waiting for the right moment to take action. However, other key figures within Disney are reportedly opposed to this possibility.
In any case, such an acquisition would provide the company with a real growth engine in the video game sector. Since Josh D’Amaro, Disney’s new CEO, aims to unify the company’s ecosystem, we can already envision close collaborations between Disney parks and Fortnite.
It’s worth noting that the $1.5 billion agreement between the two companies is still in effect, so there’s a close relationship between Epic Games and Disney already.
