It’s been a funny old week where some of the most exciting news stories have been about console firmware updates. Backward compatibility can now be much better on Switch 2, PS5 Pro owners can get better PSSR upscaling… but then there’s the absolutely bizarre push from Nvidia with DLSS 5 to have Instagram or TikTok AI filters slathered across your games.
So, with all that and more, lets get to the news.
In the News This Week
- Starfield is coming to PS5 in April – and there’s the huge Free Lanes and Terran Armada coming too
- Sony to retire the PSN branding
- Switch 2 System Update 22.0.0 adds Handheld Boost Mode to play Switch 1 games at higher resolution
- A PS5 system update has brought upgraded PSSR to Silent Hill 2, Alan Wake 2 and more
- DLSS 5 revealed and it’s getting a kicking as it looks like an AI filter but Nvidia CEO says critics are “completely wrong”*
- Dark Scrolls will slowly roll onto Switch and PC this year, always moving from left to right
- Double Fine throws down and fires up a Kiln release date for April
- LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight gets an earlier release date
- FBC: Firebreak gets its final content update, a lower price and Friends Pass
*Critics probably say that he is completely wrong.

With the current landscape of the games media, we’re exploring more direct reader-funding so we can continue to invest in the site, and support our writers, allowing them to continue to pen the news, features, and reviews that you visit us for. To that end, we have launched a Ko-fi page earlier this year.

Games in Review & Featured Articles
One of the biggest games of the year is already upon us with the much anticipated open world RPG action of Crimson Desert. We’re not pinning a score on it just yet, but Dom’s spent a lot of time sinking into its vast world. You can read his review in progress here, and check in on PS5 performance here.
For the rest of the reviews we had:
- Diablo 2: Reign of the Warlock – DLC – 8/10
- Dragonkin: The Banished – PS5, XSX|S, PC – 7/10
- Resident Evil Village Switch 2 – NSW2 – 6/10
- Starship Troopers Ultimate Bug War – PS5, XSX|S, NSW2, PC – 5/10
Jason then brought us an early access review for Solasta 2, which is coming along quite well.
Elsewhere, I got to go hands on with Pragmata for a new section of the game, and came away with a clearer idea than ever what this sci-fi hack & shooter game is going to play like. I’m looking forward to this one!
With the release of Avowed on PS5 recently, Jim opined that it’s making the long wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 a little easier to handle, while Aran previewed the humorous point and click adventuring of The Darkside Detective: Backside of the Moon.
Rounding out the week, What We Played featured Crimson Desert, Marathon & Towerborne.
Trailer Park
Vampire Crawlers emerged on 21st April
Shenmue 3: Enhanced Edition revealed
The Angry Birds are coming to Two Point Museum
That’s all for the round up this week. Enjoy the weekend and we’ll carry on carrying on on Monday.
