This strategic decision by Meta marks the definitive end of the metaverse. Earlier this year, the Facebook-owned company already announced its intention to remove the Horizon Worlds platform from its VR headsets.
This change is now official, as Horizon Worlds and Events will be removed from the Quest Store as of March 31, 2026. Users will be able to explore the various worlds in virtual reality until June 15. After that date, all these features will be transferred to mobile devices and will no longer be accessible via a Quest headset.
In fact, the Meta Horizon mobile app will become the sole platform through which Meta’s metaverse will be offered. The American company has decided to focus exclusively on smartphones and tablets for its platform.
