Jessie Buckley has been congratulated by Supermassive Games on her Oscars win, but fellow winner Michael B. Jordan also has several gaming credits on his CV.

Over the past decade, we’ve seen more high-profile actors take lead roles in video games, between Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077, Elliot Page in Beyond: Two Souls, and Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen in Death Stranding.

One developer who has attracted lots of Hollywood talent is Supermassive Games, with Rami Malek starring in 2015’s interactive survival horror Until Dawn, while the likes of Will Poulter, Ashley Tisdale, and Shawn Ashmore all made appearances in The Dark Pictures Anthology.

After Malek won Best Actor for 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody, the studio now has another Oscar winner under its belt, thanks to Jessie Buckley.

The Irish star, who won Best Actress for her role in Hamnet at the 98th Academy Awards last night, previously starred in 2022’s The Devil In Me as Kate Wilder, a role she voiced and did motion capture for.

Following her win, Supermassive Games congratulated her in a post on X, highlighting the Dark Pictures connection. ‘Jessie Buckley, our star of The Devil In Me, won the Oscar for Best Actress last night!

‘She’ll likely need a new trophy cabinet as she collected Best Actress awards at the BAFTAs, Critics’ Choice, Golden Globes & the Actor Awards. An amazing award season for Jessie – congrats!’

Buckley isn’t the only major winner from last night’s Oscars with gaming roles earlier in their career. Michael B. Jordan, who won Best Actor for Sinners, voiced Jace Stratton in 2011’s Gears Of War 3.

He also starred in NBA 2K17, virtual reality horror Wilson’s Heart, and 2018’s Creed: Rise To Glory – a VR game based on his role in the Rocky franchise.

Jordan has spoken about his passion for games in the past, particularly first person shooters. In an interview with TheWrap, he fondly recalled playing Doom on a PC in computer science class and GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64. ‘I think from there on forward the first person shooter has always been a part of my life,’ he said.

Back in 2020, the actor invested in Call Of Duty esports team the New York Subliners. The team, who compete in the Call Of Duty League, has since rebranded to Cloud9 New York.
