Director Koshi Nakanishi has thanked fans for supporting Resident Evil Requiem while also teasing upcoming DLC.

Less than a week after it was rumoured that DLC for Resident Evil Requiem was in the works, Capcom has officially confirmed this to be the case. Although that isn’t too surprising when both Resident Evil 7: biohazard and Resident Evil Village saw multiple DLC expansions.

The aforementioned rumour suggested that there will be DLC involving Leon as well as a playable version of Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace’s mother, but Capcom is keeping most of the details under wraps at the moment.

What it has said is that it will include story DLC that will ‘delve deeper into the world of Requiem’ though it ‘will take some time’ before it’s ready to be released.

The news comes from a recent video featuring the game’s director Koshi Nakanishi, who cheekily shared some fake slides for what the DLC could involve.

They are quite funny, such as one that depicts Grace and Leon as cats, one featuring some sort of card game with the villainous Gideon, and something called Forbidden Requiem that looks like a dating sim featuring Leon.

What the DLC story is actually about is a mystery but, without spoiling anything, there are a handful of unresolved plot points in Requiem, including a post credits scene that’s obviously meant to tease a future story development.

Aside from that, there are plans to add a photo mode as well as a minigame of some description. Nakanishi didn’t elaborate any further, but the obvious assumption is that he’s referring to The Mercenaries.

This has been a recurring and popular arcade style minigame throughout the series; one that involves shooting through hordes of zombies to complete objectives within a time limit.

The mode’s also an opportunity to play as other characters aside from the main protagonists, so perhaps Alyssa will be made playable in Requiem’s version of Mercenaries – even if she doesn’t get her own story DLC.

There’s unfortunately no indication of when any of these updates will arrive, but they’ll likely be out before the end of the year. The Resident Evil 4 remake received its Mercenaries mode as a free add-on less than a month after launch, with its paid story DLC, Separate Ways, arriving five months after that.

Capcom may time the Mercenaries mode to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil series, which takes place this month on March 22. At the very least, it’ll likely have something to announce to mark the occasion.

Elsewhere in the video, Nakanishi once again thanked fans for their support and helping Requiem sell more than five million copies in such a short time. Earlier today, Capcom also shared a website collating player statistics, including an eye watering collective play time of over 12,000 years.
