What We Played – Esoteric Ebb, Marathon & Planet of Lana 2

It’s been nice to find a bit of warmth seeping its way into the UK this week, though we probably shouldn’t get too excited about it. It probably won’t last too long! When I haven’t been drawn outside by the sunshine, I’ve been playing a whole heap of Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection and Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition as well as checking out Mouse P.I. for a preview too. The next week is looking similarly jam-packed too, so perhaps I’ll hope for a little rain to keep me indoors.

Jason has been playing some more Lost Castle 2, which is coming close to full release now. He sais, “It’s an excellent beat ’em up roguelike with some Monster Hunter vibes to the weapon design. I’ve also been playing There Are No Orcs, which is a fun strategy autobattler, Rogue Monster Rush, which is a creature-based tower defense game that’s also about to hit the 1.0 update, and Homura Hime, which is a physically tiring action game that is fun, but might be too rich for my blood.”

Meanwhile, Aran has been playing Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth. He told us, “I’ve just been walking around the streets doing sub stories, getting into battles, and levelling up the party. I want to take my time with the game so I can experience pretty much everything it has to offer. I also played Love Eternal for review, which is a tough precision platformer with a weird story.”

Jim finally bid farewell to Red Dead Redemption after completing the Undead Nightmares expansion which he says was, “Fun albeit repetitive, given the endless waves of zombies that can only be put down by headshots.” He continued, “Now, I’m playing yet another former Xbox game that made the jump to PS5: Avowed is a vibrant action RPG that has that unmistakable Obsidian mark and almost feels like a new Elder Scrolls game at times. I’m really digging the dual loadout system that allows players to seamlessly switch playstyles if they fancy being a stealthy ranger in some scenarios or a mace-swinging brute in others. I’m also finding the exploration to be fun and rewarding given the verticality of environments and the ways you can climb and use spells to reach hidden spots.”

Next up for Jim, though, is Marathon, which he’s just making a little start on with Tuffcub and me.

Nic B has played a lot. He’s checked out Pokémon FireRed, which ate into his Resident Evil Village time. He also started on Resident Evil Requiem but he’s going to be even more distracted as Pokopia just arrived in the post! He says, “This is my life now. A never-ending cycle of catching zombies and running away from wild Pokémon.”

Laura finished playing through the epic conclusion of the Planet of Lana 2 storyline – “Roll on part 3 please!” – and then started the Knightling and has enjoyed shield sliding around the town for far longer than she should.

Keeping things varied as always, Steve replayed some of RE Requiem, but not as much as intended due to work commitments and other review games. He says, “I was disappointed by my return to Nosgoth in Legacy of Kain: Defiance. Still love the vibes and world but the game itself has not held up well. I moved straight on from that to an upcoming horror game that is far more spooky than the action parts of RE, an indie horror game about being a crab fisherman, and shooting bugs in the Starship Troopers boomer shooter. There’s definitely a ‘too many legs’ vibe going on here.”

Miguel started…for the first time ever…. Disco Elysium!! “It’s really good,” he says, “I think this game might just become a hit.” Besides that he’s also been playing a bunch of the Marathon Server Slam last weekend, some Rogue Point with Tef, and a bunch of Esoteric Ebb for our glowing review.

And finally there’s Tef who, as has just been spoiled by Miguel, played a good bit of Rogue Point, but his main gaming endeavours of the past couple weeks have been in the delightful and cosy Pokémon Pokopia.

What about you? What have you played?
