How To Get The True Ending In Mewgenics

How To Get The True Ending In Mewgenics

Are you hoping to obtain the true ending in Mewgenics? This is one of the longest and most arduous tasks in a game that’s already filled to the brim with challenges. But, if you’re up for it, you’ll reach the pinnacle that only a few have dared to brave. We’ve got all the details for you, including information about the final boss. Oh, and just so we’re clear, this article does contain massive spoilers.

Note: Before we continue, we want to remind you that reaching this stage of the game requires you to complete a bunch of progression quests for Dr. Beanies. Along the way, you also have to defeat numerous major bosses. Eventually, after quite an ordeal, you should have access to The Infinite, the last secret zone in the game. And if you’re just as curious as a cat, you can take a look at various articles in our Mewgenics guides hub, too.

Final boss: The Creator – Phase 1 (The Good Cats)

Assuming you’ve done Dr. Beanies’ tasks and you’ve made it to the Infinite, then you still have a tall order ahead of you. The Mewgenics final boss fight against the Creator is a multi-phase encounter. It takes several rounds and exhaustion is likely to set in.

  • Stats:
    • The Creator – 999 HP, 0 ATK, 0 SPD, and 5 LCK.
    • Good Cats – Variable stats.
  • Don’t bother attacking the Creator since he’ll just push everyone to the walls of the chamber.
  • The Good Cats refer to the doppelgangers of your current party members. They are exact copies of each character, right down to their abilities and item loadouts.

You’re up against mirror images of your own team, so try to focus on the most threatening units–i.e. those with high Speed, multiple attacks/actions, and area-of-effect (AOE) abilities. Prior to this bout, you could opt to equip certain gear pieces with penalties just to debuff your team’s clones. However, this is also very risky. In any case, don’t dawdle too much here. Just finish this phase as swiftly as possible.

Final boss: The Creator – Phase 2 (The Destroyer)

After eliminating your doppelgangers, you should be one step closer to unlocking the true ending in Mewgenics. However, you still need to contend with the Creator boss’ second phase. This is when he transforms into the Destroyer.

  • Stats: 500 HP, 9 ATK, 3 SPD, and 5 LCK.
  • The Destroyer’s main attack is a melee swipe that hits two tiles in front of him.
  • Each time you hit him, he’ll bring up his shield and block all subsequent attacks from that direction. Melee strikes will also cause him to push back that attacker.
  • He periodically charges up Holy Blast. He won’t block in multiple directions, save for one. He’ll continue to push back attackers outside of the spell’s radius.

The idea here is to spread out with your team so you can hit the Destroyer from multiple angles. If he faces toward one direction, then your next unit should hit him from the sides or from behind.

Then, whenever the boss casts Holy Blast, use multi-hit abilities like Arrow Flurry since he won’t change directions while he’s channeling. Likewise, classes with multiple reactive maneuvers, such as a Monk with Running Jab and Way of the Hare, can run circles around the boss to hit him several times in a single turn.

Once the Destroyer’s health is low enough, he’ll transition to another sub-phase. His abilities will become even deadlier:

  • He’ll throw his shield at a random character, dealing high damage and likely downing that unit.
  • His Precognition spell causes him to dodge every attack made against him. Your only recourse is to rely on damage-over-time (DOT) effects from earlier and DPS bursts as he’s channeling Holy Blast.
  • His melee maneuver changes to Annihilation, where he strikes two tiles multiple times. This will likely kill any character with less than 20 HP.

Final boss: The Creator – Phase 3 (The Father and the Child)

Once the Destroyer has fallen, it’s time to face the Father and the Child. At this stage, your characters might be exhausted already, which minimizes the amount of health and mana that they recover each turn.

  • Stats:
    • The Father – 999 HP; no other stats.
    • The Child – 400 HP, 0 ATK, 3 SPD, and 5 LCK.
  • The Child is your main target. The Father cannot be hit at all.
  • The Father periodically slams units to the walls of the arena, dealing knockback damage.
  • The Child alternates among three spells in succession: Purity (red), Pulse (blue), and Wrath (gold).
  • Each spell has a counter which starts at 7 points. This ticks down each time the Child is hit by an attack. Once the counter reaches zero, that spell is cast and the next spell is activated.
  • Multiple Cherub corpses will also fall down from the sky. These can block line of sight. They can also be revived and slain to gain the All Stats Up buff.

This part of the final boss battle is all about properly managing your unit’s actions. While it’s tempting to attack repeatedly, you still have to consider the mechanics of each spell that will be cast when the counter reaches zero.

  • Purity
    • Each time a unit deals damage, the tile that it’s on, as well as adjacent tiles, become targeted. When the counter hits zero, the targeted tiles will get blasted by a beam.
    • Ideally, each character should expend all their attacks, before moving away.
  • Pulse
    • The boss periodically moves and tramples toward the unit that dealt damage–i.e. somewhat akin to Boris from the Sewers. When the counter hits zero, a shockwave will push back all units.
    • Spread out a bit when attacking so the boss doesn’t trample multiple characters.
  • Wrath
    • All tiles in the room will be targeted. The only safe zones are those blocked by line of sight from the boss.
    • You can have a Tank (or a character with high HP) stand near the boss, while everyone hides behind that unit. Alternatively, you can use the Cherub corpses as cover.

Once you’ve defeated the final boss in Mewgenics, you’ll be treated to a victory parade. Just kidding! By the time you return home, Dr. Beanies will tell you that the Creator actually managed to regenerate. Whoops!

Dr. Beanies’ Nuke Quest – Part 1 and 2 (The Throbbing Domain and The Rift)

Knowing that the Creator is still alive, Dr. Beanies concocts a plan to annihilate it for good. This kickstarts the last progression quest, which happens to lead to the true ending in Mewgenics.

Dr. Beanies gives you three items in succession. You need to clear specific secret zones and then return to him so you can tackle the next objective.

Jar of Radiation

  • Required destination: Throbbing Domain in Act 1 – Fill it with the blood of the Throbbing King.
  • Modifier: At the end of your turn, deal 1 damage to everything. At the end of each battle, gain +1 to a random stat and -1 to a random stat, permanently.

Jar of Radiated Blood

  • Required destination: The Rift in Act 2 – Add a bit of Chaos to it.
  • Modifier: Whenever you take damage, spawn a friendly Clot that can grow into a copy of yourself. At the end of each battle, gain +2 to a random stat and -2 to a random stat, permanently.

As you can see, the requirements are pretty straightforward. Do separate runs to clear the aforementioned zones, beating the Throbbing King and Chaos in the process. Then, in the event panel, choose the dialogue options to “collect blood” and “collect flesh.”

The only downside is that the cat that has these items equipped will have their attributes completely messed up. You probably don’t want to equip these on stalwart characters that you’ve bred perfectly.

Dr. Beanies’ Nuke Quest – Part 3 (The Infinite)

After completing the Jar of Radiated Blood quest, Dr. Beanies gives you the third and final quest item… a Nuke!

Nuke

  • Required destination: The Infinite in Act 3 – Take it to the Infinite and wait for the signal from Dr. Beanies to set it off.
  • Modifier: Grants +2 Brace. If this cat dies, it explodes and deals 50 damage to everything. Gain the “Trigger the Nuke” bonus ability.

Once more, you need to head back to the Infinite to face the Creator. However, a character does need to equip the Nuke. Give it to someone with high HP and is unlikely to die, such as a Tank.

Eventually, when you come face to face with the Creator, Dr. Beanies will tell you that the boss must be in his primordial form. This means you have to reach phase 3 of the battle.

Then, the start of phase 3, Dr. Beanies will tell you to set off the Nuke to finish the job. Just click on the “Trigger the Nuke” button and be ready for what comes next.

Note: We’re causing to pause for a break here. The next sections contain major spoilers where we include more details about the endings. If you just want to learn about the quest steps, then you can stop reading here. But, if you’re really curious, then you can keep scrolling down.

What happens if you use the Nuke in Mewgenics?

Using the Nuke won’t actually cause your team to perish. In fact, it unlocks the true ending in Mewgenics.

A cutscene will play where Dr. Beanies shows up in the time machine. He rescues your cats in the nick of time, pun intended. However, before the contraption can bring everyone home, Steven attacks and possesses Dr. Beanies. The last credits will finally roll.

But, wait, there are some additional post-credits scenes, too:

  • A zombified and deranged-looking Dr. Beanies reappears in front of P-Mart. He then moves to the sewers, as though he’s taken the role of Frank.
  • A shooting star appears in the sky and the words “The End?” flash on your screen.
  • Steven refers to this conclusion as the “Steven Ending.”
  • Steven says that he’s been snooping around the files and that he saw “pieces of a DLC in there.” Looks like we’re in for more chaotic meowing in the future…

Note: Once you’ve used the Nuke and returned home, you’ll receive various class-specific endgame rewards for the cats that survived the bout. Likewise, Dr. Beanies will provide you with the Jar of Radiation once more, just in case you want to redo the Nuke Quest.

What happens if you don’t use the Nuke in Mewgenics?

Lastly, let’s talk about what happens if you don’t use the Nuke in Mewgenics. Well, here’s where things get even more interesting:

  • After a round has passed during the third phase of the Creator boss fight, Dr. Beanies will show up via hologram again. He’ll keep telling you to activate the bomb.
  • If you keep fighting the Creator normally, he’ll become even more irate. He’ll then refer to you–the player–as Magdalene. (The player is also referred to as Magdalene in the end credits.)
  • Dr. Beanies admonishes you for not triggering the bomb. He also adds that it was the Creator/Father/God who took Isaac away from you.

In a way, this whole ordeal, from the time you picked two cats at the start of the campaign, is tied to the events of The Binding of Isaac, developer Edmund McMillen’s previous game. Magdalene, Isaac’s mother, seeks atonement for having driven her son away. Now, we know that the Creator took Isaac and we have a way to enact his mother’s vengeance with searing nuclear fire.

Then again, if you still avoid using the Nuke, Dr. Beanies does it for you instead. He’ll activate the bomb, which also leads to the same true ending cutscene.

That does it for our guide on how to get the true ending in Mewgenics. We hope you enjoyed this whole journey with your fuzzy feline fighters.
