Shutaro Iida, director of Castlevania and Bloodstained, has passed away

These are truly dark times for video games, with the recent passing of yet another big figure in the industry. Shutaro Iida left us on February 10 at the age of 52 after a long battle with cancer.

During his career at Konami, Iida directed several Castlevania games released on Game Boy Advance and DS. In particular, we owe him the excellent Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, as well as Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia.

After leaving Konami, he joined Koji Igarashi to found ArtPlay. There, Shutaro Iida served as director on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Our thoughts are with his loved ones.
