A 2027 PS6 release date is completely out of the realm of possibility, if a new report by Bloomberg is to be believed. In a fresh article, the publication has corroborated recent rumors of Sony breaking its traditional seven-year console cycle.
Price hikes attributed to AI threaten PS6 release date plans, says report
According to its sources, which Bloomberg claims are familiar with Sony’s plans, the company is considering pushing PS6’s release window as far out as 2029.
We’re sure that there are several factors behind this decision, but the main issue is price hikes caused by an unprecedented global demand for artificial intelligence.
Major companies like OpenAI are building AI data centers, due to which there’s an overwhelming demand for memory chips. This demand far surpasses supply, pushing prices up and leaving consumer electronics manufacturers struggling.
Lenovo Group CEO Yang Yuanqing has previously stated, as quoted by Bloomberg, “This structural imbalance between supply and demand is not simply a short-term fluctuation.”
Sony isn’t the only affected console manufacturer, as Bloomberg claims that Nintendo is considering increasing the price of Switch 2 sometime in 2026.
Neither Sony nor Nintendo responded to the publication’s requests for comments, but at this point, we won’t be surprised if we don’t see the PS6 anytime before 2029.
