A new Stardew Valley mod has just added the Duolingo Owl, and now I think I’ve seen everything.
Duo, the official mascot for the language learning app Duolingo, has a lot of complicated lore surrounding him.
What was originally just a simply owl to help encourage Duolingo users to keep up their daily learning streak eventually evolved into more unhinged narratives.
This includes a rather bizarre moment in popular culture when, last year, Duo met his fate by being run over by a Tesla Cybertruck and sent to the gates of Heaven.
Although later resurrected, I can’t see Duo in the same way ever again.
Don’t ask me why, but this has led to me installing a bizarre new mod for Stardew Valley titled Duolinguo Companions and Outfit.
It does pretty much exactly as it says on the tin, where Duo shows up in Pelican Town to come bother you about keeping up your daily streak. That pesky little thing.

Duolingo Owl In Stardew Valley Is Something I’m Not Sure I’m Comfortable With
You can summon your new unsubscribeable companion by finding an urgent green letter in the post, which contains the mysterious Duo’s Jade Flute. Playing it will summon Duo, who appears in physical form in Pelican Town.
Duo’s exact mission in Pelican Town is pretty much the same as in reality; reminding you about your daily streak and encouraging you to continue learning a language. The shock, the horror.
Modder EndlessPath has also added multi-language support, where he’ll remind you in nine different languages, adding an international surprise to your farm life.

In addition to this, there’s also a few special outfits you can wear alongside Duo’s appearance. You can grab the Duolingo Owl Hood and Duolingo Supporter Tee to dress up your character.
I’ve covered a lot of Stardew Valley mods here over the years, but I can’t say I’ve ever seen anything quite as perverse as this. I mean, really, the Duolingo Owl?
I’m not sure if anyone asked for this, but I’m sure there’s someone out there that will probably appreciate it. Someone on their 998th day streak and also happens to be obsessed with Stardew Valley.
As for me, I don’t think I need Duo bothering me on more than just one app. That just seems a little overkill.
