Nintendo Switch 2 Hits 17.37 Million Sales While the Switch is Now Nintendo’s Best-Selling Console

Nintendo’s latest earnings release for the fiscal quarter ending December 31st, 2025, is now live, and the Switch 2 is confirmed to have sold a whopping 17.37 million. Despite 35 percent fewer sales in its first holiday season compared to the Switch 1’s, it still sold 7.01 million consoles in those three months.

Software was similarly cracking with 17.31 million units sold. However, that’s not all, as the Nintendo Switch has reached 155.37 million sales, becoming the company’s best-selling hardware in history. The previous record-holder, the Nintendo DS, which reached 154.02 million sales, has finally been dethroned.

That said, it sold 1.36 million units in the last quarter, with software sales reaching 47.37 million. The disparity between hardware and software figures is mostly due to how long the Switch 1 has been around.

As for the Switch 2, other notable milestones include becoming the fastest-selling video game console hardware in US history, beating Sony’s PlayStation 4. That’s alongside dominating unit and dollar sales charts for consoles in the region.

Of course, it was also the fastest-selling console in Japan last year with 3.78 million sales, which may not seem that significant in isolation. The fact that it continues a 21-year-long record of domination for the company is another matter entirely, though.
