PS5, PS4 players are speculating that a new PlayStation Rewards program is in the works after a mysterious PS Store listing appeared over the weekend. Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the listing is for an app called Wallet Credits, and we can confirm that it only recently appeared on multiple regions’ storefronts.
New PS Store listing might not have anything to do with PlayStation Rewards program
The PS Store listing in question has no information other than the publisher’s name. Interestingly, players can “wishlist” whatever Wallet Credits is. The app is currently in “announced” state with a release date “to be determined.”
There are all sorts of speculations about Wallet Credits. Some users have theorized that the listing is related to PS Store credit that Sony gifted select users late last year. Some think that it may be a way to purchase PSN credit directly from the company. Others think that a replacement for the doomed PS Stars is on the way.
While I don’t think Sony needs to roll out a separate app for purchasing PSN credit, since there are already several ways to top up wallet funds directly via the PS Store, I don’t think this app has anything to do with a rewards program either.
My wishful thinking is that Sony is planning to roll out a PS Store gifting system, which players have been begging for.
