The Walt Disney Company is about to enter a new era. Bob Iger, the company’s current CEO, is expected to step down later this year. Although an outside candidate was considered to replace him, it will ultimately be someone from within the company who takes up the mantle.
Bloomberg reports that Josh D’Amaro will be Disney’s new president. He currently serves as president of Disney Experiences, a division that includes theme parks and other divisions such as video games.
This is why D’Amaro’s likely rise to power could be of interest to gamers. Last December, he said in an interview that he wanted to give gaming a major role within Disney. He also expressed his desire to integrate video game technologies into his teams’ creative processes.
Finally, it was also on Josh D’Amaro’s initiative that The Walt Disney Company signed a $1.5 billion contract with Epic Games for future collaboration on Fortnite.
Disney’s board of directors is set to meet next week to vote on the election of its new CEO.
