We Were All Busy That Weekend, Please Bring Highguard to PC a Second Time

Highguard has only just launched on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and, I don’t know about you, but I was busy that weekend. Can you release it again? I promise I’ll play it this time.

Developed and published by the new indie studio, Wildlight Entertainment, Highguard is a free-to-play, PvPvE, 3vs3 “raid shooter” that released last week to negative reviews, after a seemingly one-man hype campaign from Geoff Keighley.

“Team up, secure your base, then ride out across vast uncharted lands to loot, harvest resources, and upgrade your arsenal as you face off against a rival Warden crew looking to claim your territory as their own,” reads the synopsis of Highguard.

“Battle for possession of the legendary Shieldbreaker in the open field; fight to carry it to the enemy base to bring down their shields – then raid to destroy their base before they can destroy yours.”

Highguard Somehow Got the Final Slot at The Game Awards

When Highguard was revealed at The Game Awards in 2025 as the final “treat”, it didn’t go down too well with fans watching around the world.

No offence to Highguard, but that final slot is typically reserved for a massive reveal, as we’ve seen with the next Mass Effect or the Final Fantasy XVI release date.

That being said, in 2019, Fast and Furious Crossroads was the final reveal at The Game Awards, and yeah, that was something.

With disgruntled fans not being treated to something like Half-Life 3, they let their frustrated feelings be known by downvoting the Highguard reveal trailers on YouTube.

When Highguard launched, it nearly cracked 100k concurrent players, but mere hours later, those numbers took a 90% nosedive.

I was busy, you were busy. I think it’s fair to say that if Wildlight Entertainment could just… Release it again?

Hey, it worked for Morbius. It could work here.

Highguard

See! It looks kinda fun.

In all seriousness – it’s not cool to dogpile on a game. Wildlight Entertainment deserve better than to be the butt of Internet jokes, just because we all decided, pre-launch, that we hate this game for no reason.

We should give it the second chance it deserves, and that’s what I’m bringing attention to here.

Who knows, maybe Highguard will break the 100k barrier again. It should. If not, we’ll just have to petition to relaunch it for a third time.

It’s Time to Be the Hero That Highguard Needs!

Honestly, while we’re at it, let’s make every first Monday of a new month a bank holiday, so that we can play Highguard all day. That’d certainly help boost those player numbers and give it the second chance it deserves. Maybe Valve could help us set up a petition there?

Just in case, I should add, we’re just joking, and I’m genuinely rooting for Highguard to recover from this bump. Have you played Highguard yet? Why not – go play now and help the cause!
