Stardew Valley creator, ConcernedApe, has shared an update on his brand game Haunted Chocolatier.
Stardew Valley has firmly held its place as the king of cosy farming and life-sim games. Given the gameās success and its multitude of console ports it was only a matter of time before ConcernedApe began work on their next project.
Haunted Chocolatier began in 2021 and isnāt a horror game to be clear. Itās arguably just as cosy as Stardew Valley, and involves running a haunted chocolate factory and selling supernatural products to eager customers.
Youāll gather your ingredients and interact with the spirits roaming the factory, delving deep into magical territory that was only briefly touched on in the previous game.
ConcernedApe recently dropped an update on the gameās official website, saying development has been āvery productiveā but āitās taking a while to finish the game.ā
The creator went on to debunk some claims regarding the new game, reiterating that Haunted Chocolatier is a brand-new and separate game to Stardew Valley, not an update in disguise.
ConcernedApe rounded off their blog post by saying āIām alive, the game is still in development, and it will come out when itās ready. Thank you for your patience.ā
Is Stardew Valley Dead?
With ConcernedApe doubling-down on Haunted Chocolatier being a successor and not just a test for a Stardew Valley update itād be easy to think the farming-sim is down for the count.

Can you believe the 1.5 update for Stardew Valley came out 21 December, 2020? That’s over 5 years of Ginger Island, who would’ve thought. I’ve still collected all those golden walnuts.
Could a new update bring more content? In a blog post about Haunted Chocolatier, ConcernedApe mentioned that Stardew Valley version 1.7 is officially under way, and will bring “more character/social stuff” and a new farm type.
If you can’t wait, PC gamers can always turn to amazing Stardew Valley mods to keep the game fresh.
The last few updates weāve had for the game have been very quality-of-life heavy and for massive expansions players have turned to mods on PC.
It definitely feels like itās time for something new, so itās nice to see Haunted Chocolatier is making good progress.
ConcernedApe, take all the time you need, we can all wait.
The Second Stardew Valley Successor
Itās worth remembering that Haunted Chocolatier isnāt the only Stardew Valley successor coming soon either.
Donāt forget that Sunkissed City drops this year, developed by Mr. Podunkian who has worked on Stardew Valley in the past.
Looking at the two games side-by-side thereās clearly some shared DNA, but this game will be ditching the cosy vibes of rustic farm-life and embracing the hustle and bustle of the big city, so weāre very excited for that.
