Valve, the company that owns Steam, is facing a major class action lawsuit in the United Kingdom after a court ruled that the case could proceed.
The legal action, potentially worth around $900 million, alleges that Steam abused its dominant position in the PC market by charging excessive commissions (up to 30%) and imposing anti-competitive conditions on publishers that prevented them from offering their games cheaper or earlier on other stores.
The British court ruled that these allegations were sufficiently substantiated for the case to proceed. Valve has also been facing similar action in the United States since 2021.
