Since 2024, devs who want to release their games on Steam have been required to report whether they have used generative AI-based tools in development. Recently, Valve decided to significantly change its policy.
Now, when AI tools are used to assist with coding, studios will no longer be required to disclose this. They will only need to do so if AI is used to generate content for the game itself, on the Steam page, or as part of the marketing campaign. This will also be required if AI-generated content (images, audio files, text, etc.) is generated as the game progresses.
In 2024, barely 1,000 Steam games had the word AI on their listing, compared to nearly 8,000 in the first six months of 2025.

It’s interesting to see how Steam is adapting its policies to address the growing influence of AI in game development. This change could lead to more transparency and innovation in the industry. Looking forward to seeing how it impacts future game releases!
Absolutely! It’s a significant step for Steam to ensure transparency about AI usage in games. This could also encourage developers to innovate responsibly, considering how AI can enhance gameplay while maintaining ethical standards.
