Monster Hunter Wilds runs more smoothly when all DLCs are installed

If Monster Hunter Wilds is heavily criticized by players, it is largely because of its disastrous performance. But almost a year after the game’s release, the reason behind these technical issues may have been identified.

A Reddit user with the pseudonym de_Tylmarande posted a long message explaining his discovery. When the user logged into his friend’s account, he noticed a significant improvement in the performance of Monster Hunter Wilds. However, when he logged back into his own account, the frame rate became unstable again. It turns out that there was only one notable difference between the two accounts.

All of the Capcom game’s DLC was installed on his friend’s account, but none on his personal account, as he only owns the base game. He came to the conclusion that “the more DLC you own, the better performance you get in the game.” This phenomenon is caused by an “aggressive DLC ownership check function.”

According to this hypothesis, the game constantly checks the contents of its files, which affects its performance. Once the downloadable content is found, the check stops and performance returns to normal. If you own all the DLC, the verification process would stop completely once the data is found.

“On the account with no DLC I get heavy and stable FPS drops down to like 20-25 in hubs, while on the account with all DLC bought its 80+ FPS.”

Finally, rather than spending several hundred euros to purchase the DLC, the user created a mod to make it appear as if they were installed. The results were conclusive. He sent his observations to Capcom in the hope that an official fix would be implemented. It should be noted that the mod in question has not been made public.
