Despite first being released back in 2015, there is no denying that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still a stunning game. However, thanks to one creator, we can now experience the hit RPG with some breathtaking visuals.
Marking the third entry in The Witcher franchise, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is by far the most beloved with the CD Projekt RED RPG achieving critical acclaim and praise for its gameplay, narrative, world design and visuals.
As such, it is cited as one of the best video games of all time with 60 million copies sold as of May 2025. It is hard to believe that it has been a decade since The Witcher 3 was released but in a way to keep the game alive ahead of the launch of The Witcher 4, one modder has been working on remastering the beloved RPG.
First added to Nexus Mods back in 2024, The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition is a free mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which “raises the game’s visuals to the highest level”.
Now, as of 6 January 2026, the mod has reached its final version, turning it into a next-gen masterpiece.
What Does This Free Download Aim To Improve?
“The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition is a project created from the heart that improves and reworks a huge amount of game assets (textures, models, materials and more), and the number of these changes can be counted in thousands,” the modder explains on the official download page.
“Everything is carefully made with attention to every detail. All this is aimed at making the game more detailed, realistic, consistent and as faithful as possible, reflecting the atmosphere of the dirty world of the Witcher.”
With thousands of textures reworked to 4K, surfaces now looking 3D, high quality and more detailed character models, and specially customised materials and shaders for all reworked assets, this is the one-stop shop mod for all things The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Put simply, if you are able to play The Witcher 3 on max settings, you will be able to make the most use out of this free download.
As of the 2026 update, The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project will include wind simulation, making objects no longer static.
Additionally, all characters will feature a rework, including all of the armour sported by both Geralt and Roach.
Never has our favourite gruff Witcher looked so good.
