Bethesda gamers are getting a Morrowind remake before The Elder Scrolls VI, but to be honest, Iโm not complaining.
Announced during E3 2018, when Bethesda revealed that The Elder Scrolls VI was in the works, it wasn’t only those in attendance who were buzzing with excitement, but so was social media across the world.
I can still see Todd Howard, gleefully announcing the news, and while no release date or window was revealed, many of us assumed that the launch of The Elder Scrolls VI would only be a few years away, at best.
Sadly, weโre still waiting. Itโs been nearly eight years since The Elder Scrolls VI was announced. To put things into perspective. E3 no longer exists, and the highly anticipated fantasy RPG was announced during last-gen. We were still over two years away from the launch of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Thankfully, we know that weโll get The Elder Scrolls VI one day; itโs just a case of remaining patient. That being said, at least we have the likes of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered to keep us busy, and soon, this fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
The fan-made remake in question is The Elder Scrolls: Renewal Skywind, and it’s created using the same engine as Skyrim: Special Edition, the Creation Engine.
Skywind is a Massive Project, Years in the Making!
โSkywind is a total recreation of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, built from the ground up in the more modern Skyrim: Special Edition engine,โ reads the description of the mod.
โSkywind sheds the shackles of the older game, bringing modern graphics, assets, and sounds, a full cast of voice actors, and all the benefits of fifteen years of gaming improvements, while preserving the incredible characters, locations, and quests with which Morrowind charmed the world all those years ago.โ
Skywind began its development in 2011 and has since improved and evolved over the generations. It was intended to be released in 2025, but with it being a huge indie project, as there is with major AAA projects, there have been some bumps in the road.
With a bit of luck, it will be released at some point this year, and if it does, thereโs every chance that weโll get this Morrowind remake before The Elder Scrolls VI. Hopefully, we’ll eventually get a solid update on Bethesda’s long-awaited project this year, too. Fingers crossed.

It’s great to see the excitement around a Morrowind remake! Many fans have fond memories of the original, and revisiting that world could be a fantastic experience. It will be interesting to see how they update it for a new generation of gamers.
