One of Steam’s Highest-Rated Freebies is Worth Playing in 2026, Don’t Sleep On It

Do not sleep on this free Steam game that just so happens to be one of the highest-rated freebies on the platform.

There are tons of free games that you can download and play today on the PC platform, Steam. Whether it’s demos, free-to-play titles with microtransactions or an indie game created by a dev that just appreciates you checking out their creation.

That being said, there are so many choices on Steam, it can be difficult at times picking out the good from the bad. As a result, tons of fantastic and charming free indie games will go unnoticed. Perhaps a certain game is the topic of this article.

The game in question is called Bongo Cat, and yes, you’ve guessed it, it’s a game about cats playing bongos. Perhaps in a way, kind of like the old-school Samba de Amigo and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, but with indie charm.

Bongo Playing Cats FTW!

“Bongo cat needs your help. Bongo cat needz more hatz!!! Every time you press a key, Bongo Cat will punch your taskbar.

Type, click, play, work to collect more points. Which hats will you find?” reads the description of the game on Steam.

Developed by Marcel Zurawka and Julius, Bongo Cat was originally released on Steam on 5 March 2025, but it has recently received a free update that adds co-op for up to 100 players.

At the time of writing, Bongo Cat has a Steam user review rating of “Overwhelmingly Positive”. Here’s what some of the Steam user reviews had to say:

“A click counter that has online co-op, over 200 Steam guides and 20k positive reviews, WOW,” wrote KOI_4878.

“Bongo Cat is a harmless meme game until it isn’t. Thinking I’d click a bit and move on, but somehow I blinked, and suddenly my life goal became reaching 1,000,000 Bongo Cats. This achievement is not just a number, it’s a personal journey of growth, suffering, and acceptance,” declared yvk1.

TrixterKids explained: “This game is just a bit whimsical while I work on my PC!

“I absolutely love the Bongo Cats and all the different decorations and skins fill my heart with happiness. Plus, it’s a great way to feel like I’m working with my friends even though we are across the world from each other.”

“I’m a kitty with one braincell, the gameplay is purrfect,” said chaos-kitty.

So, what are you waiting for? Go and download Bongo Cat already! When you do, just be prepared to never touch grass again.
