The Last of Us Meets Valheim in 2026 Free Survival FPS

This upcoming free-to-play looter shooter survival game will let you strap a saddle on a bear and shoot at stuff while you ride it, so I think it’s fair to say we may be looking at 2026’s Game of the Year.

If you like the overgrown, dystopian setting of The Last of Us, and you enjoy some Valheim-style tree chopping, then you may want to keep an eye on this upcoming free first-person shooter on Steam.

I will be completely honest with you right out of the gate: I’m not entirely sure when Life After End is coming out, but I can tell you for sure that it’s not gonna make its 2025 release date window (on account of the fact that it is now 2026).

However, that’s more than likely a placeholder, because the Epic Store page for the game currently states that the game is merely “coming soon”.

So, what is Life After End exactly? It’s a free-to-play “looter shooter” and survival multiplayer game set in a “post-apocalyptic Siberia”, which probably goes some way to explaining why the devs added the ability to ride bears into the game.

Beyond that, there’s not too much I can tell you about the game. In fact, I’m not even sure if the devs are still working on it.

For instance, the last official gameplay clip I can find for this game is from November 2023, which already isn’t a good start.

The devs were actively posting about the game’s development on Reddit at one point in time, but their last comment regarding the game was back in December.

Also, while the Steam store page for the game states that it’s being developed and published by first-time devs GreedyPannikin, it would seem that an entirely different studio by the name of GAMEPORTAL.CO was originally attached to the game as its publisher.

While remnants of GAMEPORTAL.CO’s involvement in the project can still be found on the Steam page, an archival snapshot of Life After End’s Steam page shows that their “Publisher” link has since been removed. There’s also no reference to the game on their official website.

None of this is to say that Life After End will never come out, but rather that it’s pretty clear the game is going through some developmental troubles at the moment.

Here’s hoping that the devs can get things back on track, because I wanna shoot stuff atop a bear in 2026.
