It may feel as if Starfield has been abandoned, but that’s not at all the case; the game’s second expansion has been confirmed, although you’d be forgiven for not realising.
Earlier this year, Bethesda celebrated the two year anniversary of Starfield by dropping a celebratory video.
That video glitched, revealing the message “Terran Armada”. Whether that links to the game’s Terran Presevation Society, I don’t know.
It’s impossible to say whether this is the title of the second expansion, following on from Shattered Space, or simply a clue to its story, but it’s nice to know that Starfield hasn’t totally been swept aside.
Despite the, uh, mixed response, I always found it to be a fun game, well worth playing if you’re a fan of Mass Effect or Fallout.
By all accounts, it looks as if there’s more on the way beyond the expansion which, I’ll stress, Bethesda is yet to comment on outside of the initial glitching teaser.
We’re hearing whispers as of late that the launch of Starfield 2.0 is nigh.
Essentially, the belief is that the game has undergone such extensive changes that it’ll have its Cyberpunk 2077 moment, completely reinventing itself.
It’s hard to say whether this is accurate or not, so do take the rumour with a pinch of salt.

This is backed, however, by another rumour that claims that Microsoft is assisting Bethesda in upgrading its Creation Engine, adding in Unreal Engine features.
Starfield is believed to be a testing ground for this ahead of the future launch of The Elder Scrolls VI.
Again, have that pinch of salt ready, but it’s all getting a tad suspicious, especially as Bethesda head Todd Howard recently made reference to shadow drops.
Speaking to GQ, Howard commented on Oblivion Remastered’s shadow drop, explaining that it “was a test run” and “worked out well”.
Since then, everyone has been wondering what it might be a test run for. The Elder Scrolls VI feels like a stretch so that leaves us with Starfield. Fallout has been pretty open about any updates.
Fans Are Preparing For The Second Expansion Any Day Now
Starfield’s players are wondering when that shadow drop might land.
“Are these guys crazy enough to shadow drop this update on Christmas?” asked Reddit user Willal212.
“No, simply because if there’s any issues they’re not going to be able to roll out fixes quickly with everyone on holiday. Very few companies will push any sort of release right before Christmas. 5th Jan drop?” paulbrock2 replied.
“It’ll shadow drop at the Xbox event next month, it makes more sense. More eyes and they’ll be selling a new port so it has to have more eyes,” added Ollidor, which I feel is a more convincing theory.
“Might hear something about Starfield at Xbox showcase in January,” echoed Cautious_Catch4021.
It’s been three months since the expansion’s original teaser dropped so we are definitely overdue an update or a shadow drop. My eyes are on January’s Xbox Developer Direct.
