Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is one of the most popular games in the Assassin’s Creed series, and even 12 years later it still proves to live up to its legacy.
It was the first Assassin’s Creed game to drop on PS4 and Xbox One, making a huge graphical leap on next-gen systems.
Although it still looks incredible all these years later, one fan has modded Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag to give it some graphical enhancements, giving it a new modern lick of paint.
Posted by digital artist Digital Dreams, who frequently uploads videos featuring remasters and mods that dramatically enhance older games with new graphics effects, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag now has the fan-made remaster treatment.
Posted earlier this week, Digital Dreams’ eight minute video demonstrates new remastered effects and mods to increase everything from the game’s resolution, framerate, textures, lighting, and particle effects.
Running at 8K resolution and 60 frames per second, Digital Dreams’ modded Black Flag playthrough includes ray-traced graphics and higher res textures to give it a modern facelift.
The video shows off some gameplay from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, where Digital Dreams wanders around Kingston, one of the game’s towns that appears in the early hours.
The video also makes sure to feature some combat and parkour, as is the usual routine for Assassin’s Creed games.
If you’re expecting to be able to run this on your average, run-of-the-mill PC from the past ten years, you may want to consider an upgrade. Digital Dreams is running these mods on a RTX 5090, and features enhancements pushing their machine to the max.
Despite its age, it might not be something you’ll be able to run well, even on a moderately decent PC. Especially at 8K resolutions, which are still incredibly niche for the average user.
Is Ubisoft Working On An Official Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remaster?
Still, it’s got us wondering when Ubisoft will unveil an official Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake.
Rumours and leaks point to one being in the works, with the latest batch of gossip suggesting it’s planned for release next year.
However, Ubisoft has not confirmed anything regarding an official remaster. Ubisoft has two Assassin’s Creed games in the works at the moment, a mobile game called Assassin’s Creed Jade and a new mainline title called Assassin’s Creed Hexe, but nothing regarding a remaster of Black Flag.
