PSN has a nifty holiday-themed feature that you probably missed. I know I did. The “Easter egg” — as some players call it — covers players’ screens with snowflakes when typing specific messages to friends, but there’s a small catch.
Sony has been quietly improving PSN messages feature
If you type “Merry Christmas” to your friends via PlayStation messages on the PS App, you’ll see snowflakes all over your mobile device’s screen for a few seconds. I randomly discovered this while messaging a friend this morning, and it turns out, this chat feature has been around for at least four years!
Apparently, players can also trigger the snowflakes by typing words like “Hanukkah” or even “snow,” and what’s more, it works when typing in multiple languages, not just English.
The small catch that I talk about is that this feature is limited to the PS App, which isn’t available in a lot of countries. It’s not a dealbreaker or even an important feature, but I do wish I could trigger the flurries on a bigger screen via messages on the PS5 console, especially since we keep getting system software updates that do nothing other than “improve messages and usability.”
