Microsoft’s long-promised Call Of Duty port on Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive next year according to an insider, but will it be Black Ops 7?

As part of its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft signed a 10-year deal to bring Call Of Duty games to Nintendo platforms on the same day as PlayStation and Xbox with ‘full feature and content parity’.

As you may have noticed, Microsoft is yet to fulfill this promise, but the company did recently reaffirm that it is ‘committed’ to bringing Activision’s shooter to Switch (presumably the Switch 2, considering how technically demanding Call Of Duty is).

The latest instalment, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, came and went without a Switch 2 port, but an insider claims Activision has ‘nearly done’ the first Call Of Duty title for Nintendo’s system.

In response to someone asking about the Switch version of Call Of Duty on X, Windows Central’s Jez Corden, who has a decent track record for Xbox orientated leaks, wrote: ‘The first [Call Of Duty] Switch version is nearly done and launching in a few months.’

The wording is vague, but Corden later clarified: ‘I wouldn’t say close but it’s on the way and hitting milestones, 2026.’

It’s unclear what this Switch Call Of Duty title will be exactly. A port of Black Ops 7 might be a bit redundant unless it’s launching in the first half of the year, with the next Call Of Duty, rumoured to be Modern Warfare 4, expected to launch in October or November.

There’s a chance this Switch port is Call Of Duty; Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale which is separate to the annual games. This makes the most sense, and could serve as a stress test before the potential launch of Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 later in the year.

None of this has been confirmed by Activision, so it’s worth taking with a pinch of salt. Either way, Call Of Duty is coming to Switch eventually in some form.

Activision might be keen to get Call Of Duty up and running on Switch 2 in the wake of sales for Black Ops 7, which is underperforming against rival Battlefield 6. In light of the downward turn, the studio said it would never release back-to-back Modern Warfare or Black Ops sequels ever again.

The next Call Of Duty is being developed by Infinity Ward and is expected to be a continuation of 2023’s Modern Warfare 3, with a campaign set within Korea.
