Steam’s New 50-Hour RPG, Free to Play

With the Christmas season now very much upon us, it feels like a great down to settle down in front of the fire and work through a hefty RPG whilst we have some time away from the responsibilities of work.

There are a ton of great options out there, of course, from the existing selection of major franchises, but new releases are on the way all the time that have the potential to absorb all of your free time for the foreseeable.

Now, you’ll have to wait until next year for major releases like The Blood of Dawnwalker and Fable, Steam has got some great new picks that are well worth your consideration for the holiday season.

In particular, one game seems to be drawing plenty of attention, and its release on Tuesday (23 December) means it arrives just in time to cover you for the big break.

Pan Studio

Duet Night Abyss is an Immense RPG Experience

Over on Steam, you should be able to find the store page for Duet Night Abyss, a very ambitious RPG from developer Pan Studio that combines looter shooter and hack-and-slash elements into one compelling package.

The setup for the game is classic fantasy adventure, with gameplay that looks like a version of Dynasty Warriors, with additional abilities to add to the pantheon of melee attacks that you can use as a player.

The game offers different characters to play as, who you can change between in a similar system to the ones employed in games like Warframe, where you’ll need to unlock them by earning resources in-game.

You can also freely swap between melee and ranged weapons during combat, with Duet Night Abyss seemingly eschewing a traditional class system in favour of a more freeform approach that favours player agency.

There are also plenty of different mission types available to play to keep the experience fresh, though it seems that whatever you’re doing, you’ll be chopping your way through endless waves of enemies.

The scale of the game is also difficult to overstate, and it’s set to be one of the biggest games of the year in terms of the amount of content you will have to work through. According to HowLongToBeat.com, you’ll be spending at least 50 hours working through the main block of story and some side missions.

As mentioned earlier, it’s set to arrive on 23 December, so you don’t have long to wait at all to give it a go.
