This new free Steam game might be one for the Resident Evil fans in here.
Blackthorne’s Manor is a new mystery thriller set inside a large mansion, where you need to read notes, find key items, and solve puzzles to progress.
While not strictly a survival horror game, the tone of the game is rather creepy and reminds me of the Spencer Mansion from the original Resident Evil game.
There are some similarities in the wider gameplay too. There’s first-person puzzle solving (which I guess is more RE7-coded than the first game), a lot of notes to pick up, and even some inventory management. The mansion is dark, and has a rather confusing layout that is meant to unsettle the player.
The only thing it’s missing that I’d say sets Blackthorne’s Manor apart is there doesn’t seem to be any combat in the game. Which is fair enough, I’d say. The game is clearly prioritising narrative and puzzle-based gameplay over giving you a scary threat to fight.
If you’re interested in checking out Blackthorne’s Manor, check the game out on Steam now. It’s available now and completely free.

Blackthorne’s Manor Has Positive Reviews
It currently only has three Steam reviews, which isn’t enough to give it a proper average at the moment. However, each of the three reviews has given it a thumbs up, indicating that those who have played it so far have enjoyed it.
Here is the description for Blackthorne’s Manor, courtesy of the store page: “Blackthorne’s Manor is a first-person puzzle-horror experience that plunges you into the unsettling depths of a long-abandoned estate.
“Your friend vanished after attending a party at the manor, and no one has seen them since. Armed with little more than your wits and a faintly glowing lantern, you step inside, not knowing what you’ll find on the other side.
“Shadowed rooms, cryptic puzzles, and fragments of a dark history wait around every corner. The manor’s decaying halls and strange, unsettling details hint at the sinister events that took place here. Can you uncover the secrets of Blackthorne’s Manor, or will its mysteries remain locked forever?
“Immerse yourself in the oppressive atmosphere of the manor, where every shadowed hallway and forgotten room hides a story. Interact with objects, solve environmental puzzles, and piece together the chilling history of Blackthorne’s family. Every discovery draws you deeper into the mystery, blending suspense and intrigue in a slow-burn horror experience.”
Given it doesn’t cost a penny or cent to pick up, this one may well be worth trying.

This sounds like an exciting throwback for Resident Evil fans! It’s always great to see new games paying homage to classics. I’m looking forward to checking it out!
