Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Total War, Star Wars, and Half-Life 3 are all rumoured for this year’s The Game Awards event, but which games are actually going to be there?
The longest night in gaming has come around again but while The Game Awards can be hit or miss, depending on what new games are unveiled, this year is looking to be a particularly good one. That’s because, while the three hour event is themed around the actual Game Awards – the closest thing gaming has to the Oscars – that’s not the main reason people tune in.
Most of the time is spent with trailers for new game announcements, or the first footage of titles that have only been hinted at before. There’re also often on-stage appearances from developers, and various celebrities, in what is now the biggest preview showcase for new games each year.
How much of all this leaks out ahead of time varies but this year there’s been a lot of advanced info, including several games that have already been confirmed, either intentionally or otherwise. So below you’ll find a list of everything that will definitely be showcased and several games that are heavily rumoured to be putting in an appearance.
Confirmed games for The Game Awards 2025
Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis

It’s confirmed that a new Tomb Raider game will be at The Game Awards but not exactly what will be shown, with some rumours suggesting there may even be two titles: a new mainline entry and a remake of the first game. One theory is that the two concepts are one and the same and that’s what Legacy Of Atlantis is, especially after box art and a few screen grabs of the trailer leaked on Thursday.
Resident Evil Requiem
Similarly to Tomb Raider, Capcom has confirmed that their next mainline Resident Evil will be at The Game Awards but they haven’t said what exactly they’ll show. However, they’ve suffered two leaks, one thanks to Sony, which suggests that they’ll be unveiling two new playable characters: Rose Winters from Resident Evil Village and the long-rumoured Leon S. Kennedy.
New Total War
Sega recently announced Total War: Medieval 3 but they also said that that a new ‘fantasy’ Total War would be announced at The Game Awards. They’re likely using fantasy in the broadest sense though, as the two most common rumours are that it’s either a Star Wars or Warhammer 40,000 game – with the latter currently thought to be the most likely option.
Saros
The follow-up to PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal is one of our most anticipated games of 2026, so we’re very happy to see it confirmed for The Game Awards. Sony hasn’t mentioned showing anything else though, so this might be it for them – with no sign that Wolverine or Intergalactic will be there.
Lego Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight
You probably know everything you already need to about this unusually ambitious new Lego game, which mashes together several Batman movies and incorporates gameplay elements from the Arkham games. What exactly is going to be shown tonight is unclear, but it may involve incorporating aspects from an additional movie or media source.
Exodus
This was unveiled back at The Game Awards 2023, but it hasn’t been in the news since, which is surprising as it’s by several BioWare veterans that worked on Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic and Mass Effect, and seems to be pitched as a spiritual sequel to the latter. Matthew McConaughey is one of the voice actors too.
Devil May Cry
There’re no rumours of a new Devil May Cry game but a reveal is possible, as Evanescence will be on stage performing one of their songs that is in the Devil May Cry animated show on Netflix. So, at the very least you should get some news on season 2.
Wildflower Interactive’s first game
You’ve probably never heard of this new indie developer, but it was founded by former Naughty Dog director Bruce Straley, who was instrumental to the Uncharted and The Last Of Us franchises. It’s unlikely this new game is anything similar though, as his goal is to work on ‘small-ish creatively-charged, uniquely-stylised games’.
Project Impact
We didn’t think much of The Ascent when it was released in 2021, but developer Neon Giant are set to unveil their next game this week. It’s not clear what it is but apparently they intend to ‘surprise people with its ambition.’
Phantom Blade Zero
Another game that’s already been featured in a previous The Game Awards, the release date for this Chinese-made Soulslike will be announced on Friday, although currently there’s no clue when that might be.
What games are rumoured for The Game Awards 2025?
New Larian Studios game
The biggest mystery of The Game Awards 2025 has been this image of a statue, which host and organiser Geoff Keighley posted, with no explanation of what it is. Fans have had fun speculating, but despite a convincing theory of it being a new Altered Beast game in the end it seems likely that it’s a new entry in the Divinity franchise from Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios.
That theory is based on insider information and new trademarks (via MP1st) that Larian has registered recently. The developer has recently denied they’re working on Divinity: Original Sin 3 but the franchise already includes a number of sub-series and spin-offs, so that doesn’t mean the rumour is wrong.
Half-Life 3
For the last few months, especially after Valve announced their new Steam Machine initiative, rumours of Half-Life 3 have gone into overdrive. Many insiders claim it is real and is close to being announced, but there’s much less certainty as to whether it will debut at The Game Awards. It is still a possibility but unlike everything else there’s been less rumours of it in the last few days, which probably makes it more unlikely than previously thought.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3
In contrast to the above, this rumour has only popped up in the last few days but, again, it’s round about the time you’d expect Square Enix to be looking to reveal the concluding part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, which currently doesn’t have a name – although whatever it’s called, it almost certainly starts with the letter ‘R’.
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic remake
This rumour has caused a lot of confusion, as it got mixed up with the Total War speculation. The current theory is that the Total War game is not Star Wars related but that the remake of Knights Of The Old Republic will be re-announced at The Game Awards by new developer Saber Interactive. At the very least a big Star Wars game of some sort is rumoured to be in attendance.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced
News of a Black Flag remake has been leaking out for years now, but it seems likely that an official reveal is finally upon us. The game’s full name leaked out just a few days ago, via an age rating website, which is usually a sign it’s only a few months out from release.
Control 2
It’s not a secret that Remedy is making a sequel to Control, as a follow-up to Alan Wake 2, but the rumour is that it will debut at The Game Awards. That’s perfectly believable as Remedy have been at the show multiple times before and it’s a while ago now since they first alluded to the new game.
Silent Hill 1 remake
Similarly, we know, after the sterling job they did with Silent Hill 2, that Bloober Team is currently working on a remake of the original game. They only announced it relatively recently, but rumours claim that it’ll get a trailer at The Game Awards – although possibly only a pre-rendered one.
Mario Kart World DLC
Nintendo has been at The Game Awards before, but they’ve never made any major announcements there. The first paid-for DLC for Mario Kart World is about as big as you could imagine, although it’s unclear what exactly the new content will be even if it is there.
Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
The last Pikmin game on the Switch 1 was by far the most successful, so the only surprise about this rumour is that a Switch 2 Edition took this long, although then again there’s nothing obvious to improve on from a technical level.
South Park x Fortnite
The sort of crossover you’re surprised to find out hasn’t already happened, rumours of South Park characters in Fortnite have been around for a few weeks now, with datamined information pointing to a reveal tonight.
Pragmata and Onimusha: Way Of The Sword
Capcom has used The Game Awards many times in the past to unveil new games, but as well as Resident Evil Requiem it’s rumoured that they’ll also announce release dates for Pragmata and Onimusha: Way Of The Sword, both of which are thought to be relatively imminent.
Sonic The Hedgehog
There is speculation that the next Sonic The Hedgehog game, possibly Sonic Frontiers 2, will make an appearance, although the evidence for this is very thin and revolves around musician The Weeknd randomly sharing old images of Michael Jackson and Sonic together (Michael Jackson anonymously worked on the soundtrack for Sonic 3), which fans have interpreted as a hint he’s working on the next game.
Death Stranding 2 on PC
A relatively minor rumour compared to some of these other stories but Geoff Keighley rarely needs an excuse to get his pal Hideo Kojima on stage. Curiously though, there’s no hint that Kojima will talk about his new horror game OD, but you never know.
Games that will not be at The Game Awards 2025
Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time remake
Sadly, Ubisoft has made it clear that the troubled (to put things mildly) remake of Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time will not be at the show. In fact, it’s not clear that the beleaguered publisher will be showing anything at all this week.
Intergalactic: Heretic Prophet
Although Sony hasn’t commented on the possibility, two heavyweight insiders claim that the new game from The Last Of Us makers Naughty Dog will not be at The Game Awards this year. They also suggest that the game is absolutely not coming out until after 2026, so it’s unclear when we’ll hear anything else about it.
The Witcher 4
Although it’s up for the Most Anticipated Game awards this year, The Witcher 4 is an outlier in that it’s the only game in the category that isn’t planning to come out next year. Technically CD Projekt will be there – apart from anything, just in case they win – but they’ve made it clear that The Witcher 4 will not be.
How to watch The Game Awards 2025
The problem with how to watch The Game Awards isn’t where it’s showing but when. The pre-show doesn’t start till 12.30am GMT on Friday morning and the show proper doesn’t begin until 1.00am and is expected to end sometime around 3.00am.
So although US sources will state the date of the event as Thursday, December 11 it’s really Friday, December 12 from a UK perspective.
Clearly, that’s not ideal if you’ve got work in the morning, especially as the bigger news tends to be at the end of the night. Naturally, we’ll be watching it all live though, so you can feel free to go to bed tonight and wake up in the morning with a bumper edition of gaming news.
The most obvious way to watch is via the YouTube video above but it’s also being shown on Twitch, Steam, Prime Video, X, TikTok Live, Facebook, Instagram, and Kick. You can find further details here.
