Animal Crossing is set to make its grand return in early 2026.
On 15 January 2026, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will drop both a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and its Version 3.0 update.
It’s not exactly a new instalment, but I think we’re all pretty thrilled to see New Horizons return after its supposed ‘final’ update dropped in 2022.
Just ahead of that Switch 2 port and update though, a competitor is set to arrive in the form of Cozy Caravan.
Developed by 5 Lives Studios, Cozy Caravan has been in early access for some time, but during this year’s Wholesome Snack 2025 Showcase, it was revealed that the title’s 1.0 launch is coming on 8 January 2026.
A Cosy Single-Player Adventure
Much like Animal Crossing, Cozy Caravan is set within an anthropomorphised world, although this title is played from a top-down perspective.
Players will gather ingredients, cook up hearty meals, and befriend NPCs as they travel around in their, you guessed it, cosy caravan.
“Navigate through picturesque landscapes in your trusty caravan alongside your best buddy Bubba, setting up a mobile market in each new town,” a synopsis reads.
“Craft a variety of items through delightful mini-games, then set up your market and trade with the local townsfolk. Along the way, encounter a rich tapestry of characters with their own stories and quests, deepening the sense of connection and community on this journey.”
As Cozy Caravan is already out in early access, I can tell you that it’s a huge hit with players.

At the time of writing, the game boasts an impressive Steam review score of ‘Very Positive’ with 94% of players loving what’s on offer.
“Cozy Caravan is a serene and heartfelt experience that perfectly embodies the spirit of slow living and companionship on the open road,” reads one review.
“Very relaxing and cozy! It’s nice to just sit back and play this game after a difficult day,” added another.
Release Platforms
For now, Cozy Caravan is only available on Steam, but that’ll change with the 1.0 launch.
On 8 January 2026, Cozy Caravan will also arrive on Nintendo Switch and iOS; it’ll also become Steam Deck verified.
This is wonderful news because Cozy Caravan looks to me like a game perfectly suited to the handheld experience, so having the option of playing via Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch is great.
Yet another cosy treat to look forward to.
