SEGA will use IA for their games, but selectively

In a Q&A session following the presentation of its second quarter results SEGA confirmed that it would begin integrating artificial intelligence into the development of its video games, but rather selectively, only in “appropriate use cases”.

“Rather than fully following the trend toward large-scale development, we will also pursue efficiency improvements, such as the use of AI.”

The goal is therefore primarily to optimize development efficiency, for example by automating certain tasks, rather than replacing human artistic creation, particularly in sensitive areas such as character design.

SEGA recognizes that the use of AI raises reservations, even resistance, in creative professions, and therefore wishes to proceed with caution. This decision is part of a broader context: many game studios are now adopting AI for a variety of tasks (image generation, code, storytelling), which is profoundly transforming the creative process.

For the industry, this raises questions about the balance between efficiency (time savings, cost reduction) and artistic authenticity. Some believe that AI should remain a simple assistance tool, not a substitute for human creativity.
