Capcom has an expansive library of franchises, some of which haven’t seen new entries in years. However, the video game developer and publisher has started to bring some of its most beloved series back with new upcoming entries, like Okami 2 and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. According to a new report, the zombie-slaying franchise Dead Rising will also be revitalized with a new entry.

New Dead Rising game reportedly in the works

According to MP1st, their sources claim a new Dead Rising game has been in development since at least 2023 with the code name Rec. It will star Frank West, the protagonist from the first game, and be set in Hollywood at a movie studio lot. Plot details are sparse, but the main antagonist is “an extravagant and deranged film director” who forces survivors to complete trials to help film the “perfect movie.” Also, just like the other games in the series, there will be Psychopaths, some of whom are aiding the mad director.

Although their sources do not confirm it, it seems the game will be a direct sequel to the first Dead Rising game, which would imply it takes place before the Chuck Green-led Dead Rising 2.

Gameplay details on this new Dead Rising game are also sparse, but with the return of Frank West, fans can expect to take photos with the character’s camera. Also, the time limit mechanic will also make a return.

A release date for the new Dead Rising game is unknown for now, but MP1st believes it is “still a considerable distance away.”

Like all rumors, readers should take all this information with a grain of salt until Capcom confirms it. All of this may be entirely true, but things can change between now and when this game arrives on PS5.
