Alex Woo spent years working at animated studios like Pixar, Cartoon Network, and Lucasfilm before getting his crack at directing a feature film — and Netflix’s In Your Dreams still took him nearly a decade to complete. What did he learn along the way? In conversation with Polygon, he’s quick to note that the fantasy adventure almost certainly would not have been made had it been science fiction. He calls the distaste for sci-fi the current “unspoken rule” in Hollywood.
