Battlefield 6 Meets The Witcher in Unusual Steam Free FPS Offering

A brand new FPS game that looks like a mix of Battlefield and The Witcher has just been released on Steam, and there’s a free demo available now.

Second Sun is a new FPS game that features the high octane carnage of Battlefield 6 with the fantasy RPG elements of games like The Witcher.

It came out earlier this month, but I haven’t had a chance to play it yet. On paper it sounds like an odd pairing, but having looked at some gameplay footage and screenshots, I’d say it’s a match made in heaven.

Described on Steam as “a passion project by an indie dev team”, Second Sun is set in a world where “a civil war rages between the Empire and the Order of the Second Sun. The land has been ravaged and the Empire is on the verge of ruin.”

“Hope is dwindling rapidly, as the Good Sun’s light dims. You are a Sunborn, a warrior with special abilities, tasked with protecting the Empire. All hope is on you to win the war. The Empire expects great things of you.”

What follows is a lot of fast-paced first-person shooter segments, where I’m casually calling it “Fantasy DOOM” for the time being.

Second Sun Is Available Now

There are quite a few different weapon types to help you in your quest to win the war, with rifles, shotguns, handguns, crossbows, and explosives all available at your disposal.

As you kill and loot, you’ll be able to upgrade your gear and get stronger. As the official description on Steam states, “Second Sun has a clear progression system which keeps every kill exciting. Every enemy drop and every chest could contain a crucial item for your quest. The stats you want to focus on and how you want to build your Sunborn are up to you.”

Although Second Sun has been out for nearly a month, a free demo has now been made available via the Steam store page.

The demo includes a small slice of the full game, and should give you enough to decide whether you’d like to purchase the full thing.

If you’re interested in checking it out, be sure to head to the Steam store page and download it from there. Of course, make sure your PC hits the recommended or minimum specs, so it’ll run well on your rig.

Second Sun is developed by Grey Wolf Entertainment, and published by Iceberg Interactive. You may recognise Iceberg as the publisher behind many indie hits including The Sojourn, Strange Antiquities, and Blazing Sails.
