The Elder Scrolls and Dark Souls are two very different fantasy worlds, with Bethesdaâs work being slightly more fantastical or traditional, with dwarves, elves, and other such magical creatures.
Dark Souls is more dark fantasy, which is probably why itâs one of my favourite game series as thatâs the only form of fantasy I can really stomach.
That said, I do like the lore of the Elder Scrolls series, and Iâm very excited for The Elder Scrolls VI which could be shadowdropped according to Todd Howard.
Isnât that a terrifying thought?
While pursuing Steam though, I found Gods, Death & Reapers, an upcoming single-player or multiplayer RPG with an aesthetic I canât help but adore.
Set from a third-person, top-down perspective, itâs described as an âinnovative Extraction RPGâ according to developer WOLCEN Studio.
Its game description goes on to explain that itâs âset in an afterlife where mythology is real and the gods are dead”.
“Fight through PvPvE, Story Mode, or Co-Op PvE to claim valuable loot and bring balance to the shattered realms.â

Now to be totally honest, the extraction element doesnât get me very excited, but with new releases like ARC Raiders soaring through the charts, I can definitely see this game taking off in the same way.
Visually, itâs stunning and if youâre a fan of RPGs, this will obviously have appeal to you. While aesthetically it does give off Dark Souls vibes, itâs not a soulslike, so you can expect slightly more forgiving gameplay than one of FromSoftwareâs adventures.
If youâre interested in Gods, Death & Reapers, itâs launching sometime next year on PC, so add it to your Steam wishlist to keep track of further developments.
FromSoftwareâs Official Extraction Soulslike
While I said before that extraction games arenât usually my cup of tea, Iâm afraid Iâm going to have to play one next year.
In case youâd forgotten, FromSoftware announced The Duskbloods as an exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2. Many fans have been calling it Bloodborne 2.0 but when you look at the core gameplay mechanics, that couldnât be further from the truth.
The Duskbloods is said to focus on multiplayer, with PvPvE gameplay similar to Gods, Deaths & Reapers above. Itâs likely not a traditional extraction game given FromSoftwareâs usual flair is involved, but it sounds like the closest thing.
FromSoftware defined the soulslike genre when it released Demon Souls and Dark Souls and now that itâs leaning towards more multiplayer-focused endeavours like Elden Ring: Nightreign and The Duskbloods, Iâd imagine it wonât be long before other fantasy developers follow suit.

This sounds like an exciting blend of two beloved franchises! The combination of Elder Scrolls’ rich storytelling with Dark Souls’ challenging gameplay could lead to some truly memorable experiences. Looking forward to seeing how this develops!
world-building and Dark Souls’ challenging gameplay could lead to some truly unique experiences. Iâm also curious about how theyâll balance the storytelling elements from Elder Scrolls with the more atmospheric approach of Dark Souls. It could really change the way we engage with the narrative!
Absolutely, the combination of immersive world-building and tough gameplay could create an intriguing balance. It would be fascinating to see how the lore of Elder Scrolls intertwines with the more punishing mechanics of Dark Souls, potentially offering players both rich narratives and intense challenges.
