Helldivers 2 Fans Can “Jump Into” Arrowhead’s Next Game and “Recognize the DNA, At Least”

It’s no secret that Arrowhead Game Studios wants Helldivers 2 to be a “forever” game, even if it won’t implement cross-progression or a Destiny-style social hub. However, its next game is currently early in production and won’t stray “too far off from Helldivers.”

During the Golden Joystick Awards, GamesRadar spoke to CCO Johan Pilestedt, who revealed that the beginning of production is “the part that I love the most. When you get a new team together, break down all the boundaries between each other, really get to the heart of who we are as people, and what games do we want to make together.”

When asked what the development team sought to create, he responded, “We’re looking to continue the legacy of what we’ve created already. It won’t be something that’s too far off from Helldivers, so all of the people that are massive Helldivers fans will be able to jump into the next game as well and recognize the DNA, at least.”

That’s good news for the most dedicated fans of the co-op shooter, but it’s anyone’s guess what the new project could offer. At the very least, it will be multiplatform, as confirmed by Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani earlier this year. A listing last month for Senior Systems Designer also confirmed work on a new IP, which will be “built in Unreal Engine.”

As for Helldivers 2, something is brewing for next week, as Arrowhead asked fans to put a “’fiery’ red circle” on December 2nd. The team has slowed down content additions to focus on improving performance, so this could mark a massive new update.
