Steam New Free Game Is An Excellent Way To Kill Time

A new free game that’s just hit Steam this week looks like an excellent way to kill some time.

There are many free games on Steam to play, so it can be quite difficult to weave through all the noise to find something you might truly enjoy.

A lot of these games you end up dropping after a short while, but some go on to prove to be a huge time-waster. Still, time enjoyed is not time wasted. This new free game that’s just hit Steam could prove to be a great way of killing some time, as proven by the positive reviews.

Fishing Time is a new fishing game where you collect rare fish in a river. The graphics are rather simple, and it’s intended as more of a chill experience rather than something you need to consciously keep thinking about.

There are up to 140 different fish for you to catch, with each one having unique colours, shapes and designs. In addition to this, you may also fish out trash which can be traded for coins.

However, the idea is for this to be a slow burn kind of game, so you may not be catching fish that often.

Developer ElJoka says this can take two hours between catches, though you can obviously leave the game and come back to it later after those two hours are up.

Players love it

Fishing Time was originally available in Steam Early Access, but has now seen a full release.

Although the Steam reviews appear to be rather mixed, the players who have left positive reviews seem to really love it.

“I always used to go fishing with my father. Unfortunately, he suffers from Alzheimer’s, and it’s very sad to see how little by little he’s losing his spark,” reads one poignant review with a whopping 916 hours of in-game playtime.

“Recently, I installed this game on an old laptop and, although he doesn’t remember many things, surprisingly, every two hours exactly, his alarm goes off and reminds him that he has to fish. It even gives me some hope that he might recover.

“Honestly, it’s a very beautiful game, with a retro aesthetic and relaxing music.”

“I understand all the negative reviews from people who actually don’t like the game but please note a good few of the reviews I read were people not understanding the point of the game,” reads another review.

“I find it to be the perfect game for break time. Every 2 hrs or so you get back on for a few minutes to catch a fish. You can sell them on the Steam market, and for the majority of us out there a bit of cash to use on other games with minimal effort put in is still a win.”
