PS4 features shut down

Sony has quietly shut down another set of PS4 multiplayer and social features amid reports that the console will lose some PSN functionality in 2026. Earlier this year, we reported that PS4’s “What’s New Activities” were stealth-removed. Now, the Tournaments and Teams features have become inaccessible.

Several PS4 features were shut down in 2025, more to follow in 2026

Tournaments and Teams functionality on PS4 was shut down sometime in October 2025, but we didn’t notice until now. However, we did find a brief announcement about the removal on the PlayStation support webpage.

“The Tournaments menus and Teams functionality will no longer be accessible on PlayStation 4,” Sony wrote. “We recommend users recreate groups or resend content that currently reside inside Teams via the Messages feature for continued support. You are still able to access Tournaments on your PS5 consoles.”

While these aren’t major features, the increasing number of feature removals will further accelerate going forward. Known insider Tom Henderson reported in early October that a bunch of legacy PSN features will be pulled from PS4 in 2026.

This doesn’t mean that players won’t be able to play multiplayer games on the PS4. After all, PS3 multiplayer and PlayStation Store are still kicking. However, the end is nigh for both consoles as the PS6 is only a few years away at most.
