There’s a new Fallout 3 mod on the block and this one completely changes the story, adding a new ending in the process.
Fallout 3 is now 17 years old (that makes me sick to write, in all honesty), so many of us are extremely familiar with the story by now: You wake up, dad’s gone, you go to the wasteland, find dad, lose dad again, free clean water for everyone (or, nearly everyone depending on the ending you get).
Still, all these years later – and a remaster still to be released – some players are still a little dissatisfied with the roleplaying aspects of Fallout 3. It certainly felt like some quests had specific opportunities for roleplaying and didn’t take them.
That’s where The Fallout 3 Rewrite comes into play. It’s a new mod by MrSwordToast which aims to basically expand Fallout 3’s plot, giving you a bit more freedom with regards to how some of the quests play out, and even gives you a completely new ending to aim for.

What’s in the mod?
The new ending essentially allows you to properly join the Enclave and fight the Brotherhood of Steel during Fallout 3’s final quest. One could argue the HEV ending in the vanilla game was doing exactly this, but this at least changes up the way the final quest plays out.
New Enclave side quests have also been added alongside this to further flesh the faction out, which should prove useful for any Enclave-aligned playthroughs.
There’s also another ending where you can disavow either faction and destroy the water purifier at the end. You’ll doom the entire capital wasteland, but you’ll also prevent either group from ruling the wasteland.
There are a load more changes that go beyond this though. In fact, there’s far too many changes to list here as it’s very expansive. I’ll list a few major ones below though.
To start with, more SPECIAL and skill checks have been added to various dialogue trees, enhancing the roleplaying aspects when it comes to conversations with NPCs. There’s also new Low Intelligence dialogue options in true Fallout fashion.
Various quests and side quests also have new outcomes. For example, Tenpenny Tower now allows for a truly peaceful resolution if you kill Roy Philips after making an alliance. You can also enter Vault 87 through the main vault door as opposed to going through Little Lamplight.
If you’d like to check the mod out for yourself, you can go to The Fallout 3 Rewrite on NexusMods and install it.
