Krafton invites its employees to resign following its shift towards AI

Last month, Krafton announced its intention to reorganize its entire strategy by investing heavily in generative artificial intelligence. The South Korean company wants to use it in various sectors such as research and development, human resources, and certain creative activities.

When announcing its latest financial results, the publisher behind Subnautica, PUBG, and Hi-Fi RUSH offered its employees the opportunity to leave the company voluntarily. Depending on their time there, these employees will receive varying amounts of compensation once their departure is finalized.

  • One year or less: six months’ salary
  • Two years or less: 12 months’ salary
  • Five years or less: 18 months’ salary
  • Eight years or less: 24 months’ salary
  • 11 years or less: 30 months’ salary
  • More than 11 years: 36 months’ salary

Krafton is clear that this is not a matter of layoffs, but rather a kind of assistance to “proactively design” the growth of its workforce. The company has also frozen recruitment except in areas “developing original intellectual property (IP) and AI-related personnel”.
