Black Ops 7 May Have Lost Battlefield 6 Battle Before It Begins

Has Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 already lost the war of the military shooter to Battlefield 6, before it’s even begun?

This week sees the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the latest in the long-running military shooter that has dominated the video game sales market for generations, and will still likely do so for many more years to come.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 promises to be the biggest entry in the series to date, and we’re not just talking about sales and concurrent players. I’m currently in the review process, and to say this game is huge would be an understatement.

It has a co-op story campaign for up to four players, an action-packed Zombies mode, traditional multiplayer, tons of endgame content, and much more. Whether Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 proves to be another huge success for the franchise going forward, it’s too early to tell at the time ofwriting.

Call of Duty vs Battlefield, an age-old war renewed

One game that is looking to be a huge success as of right now is Battlefield 6, which launched on 10 October.

Battlefield 6 has a single-player campaign, traditional multiplayer and just launched its latest attempt at the free-to-play battle royale genre, called Battlefield: REDSEC, with an intention to rival the already established Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone.

In the wake of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s launch this week, as reported by Twisted Voxel, during an interview with YouTuber Kyle Bosman, senior director and industry analyst, Mat Piscatella of Circana, claims that Battlefield 6 is on track to become the best-selling game in its series by the end of 2025.

Battlefield 6 “will be at some point this year the best-selling Battlefield game of all time, in a couple of weeks,” Piscatella said. However, later in the interview, he also suggested that in the long term, it’s unlikely that Battlefield 6 will outsell Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

It’s worth keeping in mind that it’s not being claimed that Battlefield 6 is out-selling Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, because that would be a silly and unfair claim to make, with the Activision game only launching today. But in respect of EA’s series, it’s looking very promising indeed.

As a long-term fan of both Battlefield and Call of Duty, it will be nice seeing both franchises flourishing once more alongside each other.

Battlefield 6 is out on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is available on PC and all current PlayStation and Xbox platforms. It also launched day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
