PS5 Players Can Get GTA Online Without PS Plus

New GTA Online Update Removes Almost 200 Cars, Angers Fans

Rockstar Games announced that its incredibly popular Grand Theft Auto Online is free for PS5 players for a very limited time. The best part is that a subscription to PlayStation’s online gaming service, PlayStation Plus, is not required.

GTA Online does not require PS Plus for a limited time

In a tweet on Rockstar Games’ X account announced that GTA Online is free on PS5 between now and November 17. However, there is a bit of a catch. This does not mean PS5 players who play the game will now own it. Instead, this is more like a free trial so players can get a taste of the online open-world game. Once the offer ends, players will need to purchase the game and have a PS Plus subscription.

As of this writing, GTA Online for PS5 is $19.99 on the PlayStation Store. The online game is also playable for anyone who owns Grand Theft Auto 5. Players who have somehow avoided playing the critically acclaimed game can get it on PS5 for $39.99 on the PS Store.

GTA Online was originally released on PS3 as the online multiplayer mode for GTA V. Since then, Rockstar has continued to support the now standalone game for over a decade. Most recently, players can partake in the Cayo Perico Heist to steal the Panther Statue as well as receive double rewards on Buried Stashes.

GTA Online is a solid game to play for PS5 players eager for the release of GTA VI, which was recently delayed. Originally set for release on May 26, 2026, the highly anticipated return of Vice City is now slated to launch on November 19, 2026.

“We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City,” read Rockstar’s statement.
