Nintendo fans eager to see new details on the upcoming sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie were treated to a short but sweet direct highlighting the new film.
Premiering on YouTube, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct on Nov. 12, 2025, gave fans a glimpse of the film’s galactic scope, with Peach and Toad blasting into space through one of Super Mario Galaxy’s iconic Launch Stars. The trailer also continued its predecessor’s lighter tone and humour, showing plenty of Bowser, who remains tiny from the previous film’s ending.
However, the most notable parts of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer highlighted two new characters featured in the film: the mischievous and energetic Bowser Jr. (voiced by Benny Safdie) and the enigmatic Princess Rosalina (voiced by Academy Award winner Brie Larson). Bowser Jr. stormed onto the scene, wielding his famous paintbrush (though without the E. Gadd logo) and transforming into his powered-up form, recognizable from Super Mario Wonder.
Much like her Mushroom Kingdom counterpart, Rosalina was shown as both kind and capable—debuting in her story room surrounded by Lumas, before taking on a massive Digga-Leg with her cosmic abilities. “At this moment, our team of artists are just weeks away from completing animation,” said CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri. He continued, “Working side-by-side with Nintendo, we are bringing an incredible range of characters to the big screen…from iconic favourites to deep cuts that longtime fans will recognize.”
“When we announced the movie title this past September, it was well received by many people from around the world,” said Super Mario Creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, adding, “thank you to everyone who is looking forward to this movie just as you did for the previous one.” Alongside the recent “Pikmin Close to You” and the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie, Miyamoto has also stated Nintendo has plans for consistent films based on Nintendo properties.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to launch on April 3, 2026.
