Following up on Insomniac Games already having confirmed a Fall 2026 release window for Marvel’s Wolverine, parent company Sony itself has now stated the same. In an investor call part of an earnings report (as caught by Genki_JPN), Sony CFO Lin Tao has confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will serve as a major first-party tentpole release for 2026.
Tao made the statement in response to a question about whether the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 getting pushed back to November 2026 will have an impact on Sony’s video game business for its own releases. Tao noted that Marvel’s Wolverine will instead serve as a major anchor for the company when it comes to first-party releases, and that it will provide an upside for the company.
Tao’s statement comes just a few days after Insomniac Games itself had taken to social media to confirm the Fall 2026 release window for the game. The affirmation was likely made in response to several questions regarding various companies’ release plans due to the impact Grand Theft Auto 6 would have on the market. The Fall 2026 release window was originally announced back in September with a trailer.
In the trailer, we got to see some gameplay, with players facing off against threats that might be familiar to fans of Marvel’s comics, including Mystique, Omega Red, and even Sentinels. The title will take players to various locations from across the world, including Japan and the Canadian Wilderness.
Rumours have indicated that while Insomniac Games might be working on Marvel’s Wolverine for the time being, there is also a spin-off for Marvel’s Spider-Man in the works, dubbed Marvel’s Venom. These rumours indicate that the spin-off would feature Cletus Kasady taking on the role of Carnage, who will also likely serve as the primary antagonist of the game. The protagonist, on the other hand, is expected to be Eddie Brock.
Marvel Games general manager Haluk Mentes had previously spoken about why Insomniac Games was chosen to develop Marvel’s Wolverine. In an interview, he spoke about the studio’s history in handling Marvel projects, with multiple successful Spider-Man games. Mentes said that the studio was “the perfect choice” thanks to its shared culture with Marvel Games.
“We have been working together for more than a decade and developed such a shorthand across multiple Marvel’s Spider-Man games that when the time finally came to bring Logan back in spectacular and visceral fashion, it was obvious to everyone on our team that Insomniac was the perfect choice,” said Mentes. “It was our shared culture and values that brought us together, and we’re so proud to continue collaborating for many years to come.”
