For this year’s N7 Day, BioWare didn’t just say that the next Mass Effect is still in development. Executive producer Mike Gamble also briefly mentioned the TV series.
The result of a collaboration between BioWare and Amazon, this adaptation is currently in the writing phase. The series will focus on an original story, but one set within the timeline of the video games. To be exact, the events will take place after those of the original trilogy. The studio didn’t want to simply transpose Shepard’s epic journey to the small screen.
“Beyond the next game, there are other reasons to be excited. I haven’t talked about it much, but you may have heard about a TV series? We are working closely with Amazon on this project and are really looking forward to seeing what their talented team has in store.
The writing team is hard at work, and we’ve made good progress on how the series fits into the Mass Effect universe and where it stands in relation to the new game. It will explore a new story in the universe’s timeline and take place after the original trilogy. It won’t be a retelling of Commander Shepard’s story, because after all… it’s YOUR story, isn’t it?”
