An upcoming Elder Scrolls release may have been possibly delayed, and fans are on edge awaiting the announcement.
Earlier this year, Bethesda and Virtuos shadowdropped the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, with the release seeing lots of positive buzz and reviews.
Considering we’ve been waiting years for The Elder Scrolls 6, and will probably have to wait a bit longer, many saw the remaster as a way of giving fans their Elder Scrolls fix for the time being.
However, another big Elder Scrolls release that was anticipated to be coming this year may now have been delayed, according to fan speculation.
Skyblivion, the other 2025 remake of Oblivion, is a project that has existed since around 2012, aiming to recreate the entirety of Oblivion within The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
It’s entirely run by a volunteer-led modding team, with everything from the locations and characters to the quests and music being converted over into Skyrim’s engine.
It seems that the release of Bethesda’s Oblivion remaster hasn’t scared off the Skyblivion team, because after nearly 15 years in development, it was announced earlier this year that the remake would release in 2025.
However, with only two months left of the year, fans are starting to get sceptical of this release window. With no date in sight, it’s possible that the mod could be pushed back to 2026.

Skyblivion may miss its 2025 release window
“Skyblivion’s Not Coming Out This Year IMO,” reads one post on the Oblivion Reddit page. “Not throwing shade but it is not looking good for 2025. Nonetheless, still excited for a possible 2026 release.”
“I’m still really curious to see their interpretation of Oblivion when it’s done, and I get why people would be frustrated if they don’t make their planned 2025 release but personally I just want to see it when it’s ready,” reads a comment on the post.
“Worth waiting another year imo,” reads another post.
Still, there’s always the chance Skyblivion could still release before the end of the year. Perhaps the developer is going to pull a Bethesda, and shadowdrop it?
Even if it does miss the deadline, it seems like people are happy to wait until next year for the mod to release.
I imagine we’ll get a project update from the team at some point if it does get delayed. And considering the progress made in the past few years, it won’t be far off either way.
