The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie from Sony Pictures and Nintendo is now filming. That’s according to an update on the Film & Television Industry Alliance website, which states that production began on November 4 and will run through April 7, 2026.
Production is taking place in Wellington, New Zealand. It’s just the latest large-scale fantasy movie to be filmed there, following The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Chronicles of Narnia.
As announced previously, Bo Bragason is playing Zelda, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth cast as Link. Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto is a producer on the Zelda movie, alongside Marvel veteran Avi Arad. Maze Runner director Wes Ball is directing the film with Derek Connolly (Star Wars, Jurassic World, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu) writing the screenplay.
