Square Enix has been changing its strategy for several months now. The Japanese publisher no longer plans to do exclusives, and wants to bring the focus back to franchises with strong commercial potential.
In its latest financial report, the Japanese firm announced that it is undergoing a three-year reboot period. Square Enix executives now want to focus on quality rather than quantity.
From now on, all major titles will be released simultaneously on all platforms. These large-scale releases will be more regular and focused on key licenses. The main platforms targeted are the PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series, and PC.
For the quarter ending September 30, 2025, Square Enix recorded a 15% decline in net sales and a 28.8% increase in operating income.
