Square Enix will make extensive use of AI for QA testing and bug fixing

The publisher of Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest is undergoing a major strategic shift. Square Enix is in a reboot phase, and wants to focus on its successful licenses and plans to prioritize multiplatform releases.

In its latest financial report, the company also mentioned the use of AI. To this end, Square Enix has announced a partnership with the Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory at the University of Tokyo. The aim of this agreement is to improve “the efficiency of game development processes through AI technologies.”

By the end of 2027, Square Enix wants to use artificial intelligence to automate 70% of tasks related to QA (Quality Assurance) testing and bug fixing. The publisher wants to “improve the efficiency of quality assurance operations and establish a competitive advantage in game development.”
