“The biggest Battlefield ever” may not have unseated Call of Duty’s engagement on consoles, but its sales momentum has reportedly reached new heights. Rhys Elliot of Alinea Analytics revealed to GamesIndustry that Battlefield 6 is estimated to have sold over ten million copies. Its last official milestone was more than seven million sold in the first three days of launch.
While not quite enough to surpass “Call of Duty’s overall market dominance – this year, at least,” its PC performance is hard to deny. Circana’s Mat Piscatella stated as much last week, as it topped the Steam weekly active user charts in the United States and Canada. Of course, impressions are slightly down after the launch of Season 1 and tying Battle Pass challenges to Battlefield: RedSec, but engagement remains high.
While Call of Duty is a “multi-platform powerhouse” – remember that it still releases on previous-gen platforms – Elliot believes there’s a “perception problem” due to “Fortnite-esque cosmetics” and the lack of innovation. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will still likely see strong sales due to brand loyalty, but it’s also worth noting Warzone, which is free and exposes “millions of players” to constant “marketing, in-game promotions, and social tie-ins that convert attention into purchases.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launches on November 14th. Despite commanding more casual players than Battlefield, it’s currently ranked 29th in the Steam global best-selling charts, far below ARC Raiders (4th) and Battlefield 6 ( 6th). This matches reports of pre-orders falling “far behind” the latter on Steam. Check out the recently revealed PC requirements here.
